The first line up of volunteers included 3 members of Dormansland Parish Council, the Parish Clerk, a District Councillor, the primary school headteacher and 7 other local residents.

The membership of the Steering Group changed a little over time as people moved or their priorities changed. The first chairman was Keith Smith and the second, current chairman is Jane Vogt

The Parish Council also engaged some professional help, firstly from Action in Rural Sussex, who provided templates for us to use and undertook a Housing Needs Survey. They brought in a company which was have a lot of local success with helping communities deliver neighbourhood plan. At the time they were called rCOH, later being renamed as O'Neill Homer Planning

The first Steering Group meeting was held  on 30 April 2014 and the work started in earnest, holding stalls at the Dormansland Carnival and School Fete to provide information.

A residents survey was delivered to every house in the parish, which was the beginning of a long and detailed collection of evidence , including establishing what were the key issues and concerns raised by the community.
